Week 6: Revising the GAME plan

My first goal was to facilitate and inspire student learning and creativity. I have selected to focus on bringing in virtual field trips. I feel I am becoming more confident that this will be easily facilitated with the technology of the Starboad in my classroom. I am excited to use this option in the classroom more. My list of effective field trips is growing, but I have noticed in my building…I haven’t gotten the response I had hoped for. This is something that most in our building have not done or considered. But, I thik more teachers will be interested once we get round two of the budget cuts. I am hoping to make a list to share with others in the building.
I would like to use other tools to inspire student learning and creativity in the classroom. I have thought about blogging and look forward to trying this out in the future, possibly starting with parents at the beginning of the year to see their response.
My second goal is to communicate information and ideas to students, parents, and peers using email, classroom website, and classroom blogs. I have the parent emails and classroom website set up and running. I need to work on a plan to update this on a more timely manner with the newsletter. I find I struggle to remember to do this. I have attached the spelling word lists that are available to parents though  :)!  I am struggling to get a blog set up. I have sent a request to the technology director and am waiting for a response. My goal is to have an actual blog up and running by the beginning of the school year and start from there. Wish me luck!

Don't get discouraged! It has been my experience at every school I've been at that the tech crew takes a while to get things done. I'm not saying they're lazy. They usually are pretty busy. I'm sure once they get around to you your blog will be top notch. Also, don't be discouraged with your progress in general. You are doing much better than me. Keep it up. I wish you continued success.

  2. Lesia,

I think using virtual field trips in your classroom will bring about much success in helping you to inspire and facilitate student learning and creativity. As you research at home and at school, I hope you are using a social bookmarking tool like Delicious to save all your field trip resources. I had just learned about this useful tool last year and have been using it like crazy! It became very clear to me on its purpose when my personal computer stopped working last week for 2 days. I was glad to know and relieved that I had bookmarked all the important sites for my teaching through Delicious. I have also attached a website that I found this week on some virtual field trips to help you. Hopefully some of them will be of use and ones that you do not have already.

  3. Your classroom blog and website sound like it is going great and is being used as a helpful tool for both parents and students. I am hoping to get this started too and am realizing that we may need to limit what goes on it and being realistic about how much time we have to devote to updating it. My goal is to use it to effectively and efficiently communicate with parents and students but I also do not want this to consume me from other things that might be more important. Good luck!

  4. I think virtual field trips are a highly effective strategy for students to learn. It it awesome that you are including this skill in your instruction and making other teachers aware of this valuable teaching strategy. My kindergarten students still comment about when we took our trip on the Mayflower (Thanksgiving). I only have two virtual field trip sites (scholastic.com and kidvisionvpk.org) so I would love to have a copy of your list. Your GAME Plan goals are moving along - best of luck!

  5. Jeff F to Lesia –

It seems like you have shown lots of growth in your GAME plan revision. The first step of being successful is to feel comfortable and confident in using technology. Now that you have mastered that phase you are definitely ready to move on and inspire students with your experience. In addition, to your confidence you will be able to facilitate and model the many forms of technology that can be utilized in learning. Community involve in the classroom is always a challenge. Your second goal is important for parent, student, and teacher communication. I too want to incorporate this in my classroom. Keep up the great work and focus in your GAME plan.
